Alright, trying something different on here for the paid subscription plan because the old way wasn’t working (for my brain)!
Inspired by conversations I’ve seen artists having about their Patreons, I’m moving from a “Here’s what you get as a paid subscriber” method to a “become a paid subscriber if you like what I do and want to support my work” flow. And inspired by
’s generous approach, I’ll be donating half the earnings from this Substack to Gaza Funds. For accountability, I’ll post what we collected and donated every three months. This means I’ll be making all the previously paid tier posts available to anyone. And to any folks who paid for a year subscription in advance and aren’t happy with this, reach out and I’ll refund you what’s left, no problem.
Basically, I don’t like putting my content behind a paywall. No shade to people who do it. I deeply believe in creatives getting paid for their work! But here, for me, it hasn’t felt right to do.
Also, I love the notion of supporting a creator because you appreciate what they bring to the world, rather than paying them as an exchange for exclusive content. And I definitely do want your support. One thing I’ve seen consistently is that small amounts in a regular flow make a tremendous impact, and particularly in this moment as I’m leaving Star Wars behind, possibly for good — literally have one more issue of The High Republic Adventures left to write (!) — and I’m still figuring out what’s next, any and all support means a lot. And that includes just being a free subscriber. I love this space and having a place to put my more longform thoughts and sketches and ideas, and you being as consistent reader on any tier makes that possible.
So thank you for being along for this (weird, chaotic, fun, messy) ride and Happy New Year!

And finally, here are some hands:
